10 Ups & 7 Downs For AEW In 2020 (So Far)

3. The Tag Division

AEW

There isn't a tag division in the world that can compare to AEW's right now. It's a low bar, admittedly, as WWE and NJPW rarely book their divisions well and Impact (outside of The North and Rascalz) and ROH provide little to write home about either, though Tony Khan's promotion is still lightyears ahead of everyone in every regard.

Hangman Page and Kenny Omega quickly went from loose Elite associates to Best in the World contenders through their fluid, cohesive teamwork, outstanding chemistry, and brilliant long-term storyline with The Young Bucks, who often eschew the spotlight but are never found lacking when they don't. The Lucha Brothers and Santana and Ortiz are tenured, world-class tandems just waiting for their turn at the top. #FTR, the most old-school of old-school tag teams, are in Jacksonville now, already imposing their Brain Busters-influenced will on the scene. SoCal Uncensored, Best Friends, and Stu Grayson/Evil Uno are established veteran units ready for any role. Sonny Kiss/Joey Janela, Private Party, and The Butcher and the Blade come laced with potential.

That there's more than we can mention here shows the outrageous depth of this scene and the booking is on point, too, with the titles booked as one of AEW's biggest prizes, not midcard novelty straps. The situation is fantastic across the board, and the best part? It feels like the division is just getting started.
