Truthfully, this match should have come months earlier, most likely at SummerSlam or even sooner, in place of Becky Lynch’s rivalry with Lacey Evans.

Asuka as the one wrestler Lynch has never beaten was a great storyline in the shadow of WrestleMania, as she initially lost her SmackDown Women’s Championship to the Empress of Tomorrow at Royal Rumble last year.

But even a year later, this one-on-one match was perfectly fine. Becky and Asuka beat the tar out of each other, with both women dealing out solid kicks, battled for armbars and maintained the aggression throughout the bout. You almost forget how good Asuka is since she’s been stuck in the tag division for so long and relying on green mist to win her matches lately.

Lynch hung around and battled, finally solving Asuka by anticipating the green mist and countering it before locking in the Disarm-Her for the tap-out title defense. And just like that, Becky overcame a major obstacle at a major show. That’s how wrestling is supposed to go.
