10 Ups And 11 Downs From WWE Royal Rumble 2020
10. Injured Ankle? What Injured Ankle?
Wrestling injuries are part of every match storyline. You pick a body part and work on it throughout the bout, and sometimes it factors into the finish. And sometimes the injury is ignored at the finish.
There are times when it’s OK to dismiss the injured body part, but then there are times when you all but yell at the TV about the lack of continuity. The Sheamus/Shorty G match falls somewhere in between.
Gable (sorry, can’t solely call him by that dumb moniker) spent a decent amount of time stomping on Sheamus’ ankle and hooked in the anklelock numerous times, attacking the Celtic Warrior’s left ankle repeatedly. But seconds later, Sheamus nailed a Brogue Kick – planting on the injured ankle with no discernible effects – for the win.
It’s not like Sheamus doesn’t have an arsenal of other moves to finish a match: White Noise, Cloverleaf, Celtic Cross. He had to use the one move that required him to put all his body weight on the bad ankle and basically ignore the damage inflicted.
This isn’t some high crime, but it’s an annoyance, and sometimes we have to acknowledge those items.
