10 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE SummerSlam 2019

1. Women’s Title Match Lacking

Until the Charlotte Flair/Trish Stratus match took place, it was tough to put a finger on what was wrong with the SmackDown Women’s Championship match.

That bout, between Bayley and Ember Moon, was similar to the United States Championship match, in that it was slow-going and never really got into gear. A decent portion of the match was fought on the mat, which is fine, but there didn’t feel like there was a lot of energy or oomph behind it, just two competent wrestlers going through the motions.

And just as the match was getting interesting, with Moon suddenly coming back with a series of high-impact moves, Bayley nailed a super-Bayley-to-Belly for the win. And thus the match was cut off at the knees and ended.

The contest never felt like anything more than an average TV match, not a title bout on the third-biggest PPV of the year.
