10 Ways To Make The WWE Product More Like Sports

10. Athlete Based Wrestling

Way back in 2003 the top feud heading into WrestleMania 19 was Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle for the WWE Title. The whole basis of the match was built around both men being elite athletes with major sporting backgrounds. That all fed into the worked storyline, it felt like we were watching what would be a sporting contest at WrestleMania as opposed to an entertainment match. It's the kind of direction WWE need to bring back as they pursue an enhancement of their sport connotations. Start booking matches up and down the roster which are built around athletes fighting for sporting supremacy. Make the storylines about compelling questions such as 'who is the toughest' or 'who has the pace to win the match.' These booking changes will help the product work as sport, because quite frankly ideas such as Bray Wyatt's 'freak from the woods' gimmick simply isn't going to let the product ever be perceived as sport. The good news is that modern day WWE stars are some of the best athletes ever seen in pro wrestling. Guys like Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes and Cesaro can all lead the way in putting over a product that is all about athleticism, agility, stamina, strength and pace.
