You can count on one hand the number of times Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows have been presented in a strong light since joining WWE. They made an excellent debut and were thrust to prominence as part of AJ Styles’ rivalries with Roman Reigns and John Cena, but have since fallen off a cliff. Their cringe-worthy comedy turn during the New Day feud buried their credibility, and while WWE tried to fix the problem by having them become Raw Tag Team Champions, it has been exasperated in recent weeks.

Roman Reigns has been allowed to use Gallows & Anderson has his own personal punchbags lately, which sends them sliding all the way back down the ladder. They’re as weak and worthless as it gets, but Fastlane presented the opportunity to build some momentum again. In Enzo Amore & Big Cass, they faced a team better known for their catchphrases and gesticulations than their wrestling skill, and it should have been a relatively straightforward victory.

Unfortunately, WWE opted against giving the champions a clean victory. Enzo had his foot on the ropes when Anderson pinned him, but Gallows shoved it away, and the champions once again came-off as guys who can’t get the job done between the ropes. WWE’s tag divisions are in a terrible state at the moment, and Fastlane was a fine example of their failings.
