10 Weird (But True) Facts For WWE In 2024

8. Ending Record-Breaking Reigns

Much has been made about the historic title reigns of Gunther and Roman Reigns, and rightfully so.

Gunther set an all-time WWE record, holding the Intercontinental Championship for a mind-boggling 666 days. The title did not change hands once in 2023. (Of course, the title has been traded four times in 2024). Reigns was world champion for a ridiculous 1,316 days, the longest since Hulk Hogan’s first WWF title run ended in 1988. He actually added the WWE Championship to his Universal Championship midway through that reign.

Here’s the crazy part: Gunther and Reigns were the first champions to have title reigns of one year or longer end at the same event (WrestleMania 40). That had never happened in WWE history before April. Additionally, it was the first time two WWE title reigns lasting at least 500 days ended in the same calendar year.

Given the difficulty and complexity of booking long title reigns and then having them line up perfectly to end them at the same time, it’s doubtful this strange instance will repeat itself anytime soon.
