10 Weirdest Moments In The Rock's WWE Career
5. A Turning Point
Whenever a character switches from good to bad and vice versa, it commonly comes down to management planning beforehand. However, on this occasion in February 2003, The Rock would rely on his instincts in the ring.
Since beginning his career as an actor, the fans began to turn on him yet again, which is evident in his match with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2002. The Rock returned via satellite, not for the first time, on the 30 January and 6 February editions of SmackDown in the build-up to his second match with Hulk Hogan to take place at No Way Out 2003. In these segments, he would insult the culture of the hometowns and embrace his Hollywood persona.
The Rock came to the ring on the go-home episode of SmackDown before the PPV and, to his surprise, was met with a mixed reaction. He toyed with the Indianapolis attendees, mocking them before taking it back and pretty much asking them whether or not he should turn heel throughout, warning them of the ramifications should he end up doing so. In this wonderfully weird promo, The Rock demonstrated he was equally entertaining as a bad guy, pointing out the hypocrisy of the audience wanting to join in on his catchphrases but still boo him for "selling out" to Hollywood.
