10 Weirdest UFC Fighting Styles
3. Kuialua
Kuialua (translating to 'two hits') isn't what you'd class as a well known martial art, which is a massive shame as it is the actual art of 'bone breaking'.
Since the 1300s, the art was forbidden to be taught to anyone outside of a Hawaiian King's honor guards or family. Controversially, in 1963, the art was brought over to America and introduced the rest of the world to the combat style. For the first time, outsiders would be taught this sacred sport.
Only one man has ever dared to use the form in the UFC and that 400lbs man's name was Jon Matua.
He would be stopped by the animal that was Tank Abbott at the now infamous UFC 6 event in 20 seconds flat.
For a style that focuses so heavily on breaking bones and locking joints, it's a wonder that it hasn't had the success that such brutality usually warrants in the cage.
Again, this martial art does tend to steer into the use of weapons so perhaps if the UFC opened up an 'armed fight-class' we could see more joy for Kuialua.
On second thought, that sounds like a PR nightmare...
