Following a successful four-year run with the WWF, Goldust, AKA Dustin Runnels, AKA Dustin Rhodes, returned, once more, to the welcoming bosom of WCW. During his time in the WWF, Goldust had completely carved out a new identity for himself. No longer was he Dustin Rhodes, son of the legendary €˜American Dream€™ Dusty Rhodes, now he was an established star in his own right, a top quality wrestler capable of playing complex, nuanced and layered characters and completely unafraid to do whatever it took to get himself over. So what did WCW do? They painted him white and strapped him into a rubber gimp suit, of course. Then, as if that wasn€™t enough, they filmed him standing outside a child€™s bedroom window, staring at the kid intently. Maybe they figured that if WWF fans had booed the €˜gay€™ Goldust character, then they would REALLY hate a wrestling paedophile...Who knows? Anyway, the gimmick was mercifully dropped after Turner Standards and Practices suggested that Seven looked like a kiddie fiddler, which, we should stress right now, was never the point of the video, or the character. Now, we can all be pretty sure that Rhodes wanted to invoke the David Fincher movie Seven by naming his character after a number, but, after watching the vignettes, it instead came across as his preferred age group.
