10 Weirdest Wrestling Cults Ever
9. Raven's Nest
Raven is wrestling’s most adaptable and prolific cult leader. Wherever he goes he gains devoted followers and is soon the head of an alternative and destructive stable. However, it is his first ECW group, Raven’s Nest, in which he was at his most cultish.
Raven combined the coolness of nihilistic grunge rock and the wordsmanship of a multi-disciplinary scholar. His intense promos drew out the underbelly of ECW, the company itself the underbelly of North American wrestling, and he soon found himself with a revolving door of devoted goons.
Raven’s ultimate form of attack was psychological warfare. He had a knack of delving into the personal life of his foes to emotionally manipulate them. However, his mind games reached their true twistedness when Raven opposed the Sandman. He recruited not only Sandman’s wife Lori, but also their six-year-old son Tyler, to his Nest. This cumulated in the infamous crucifixion of the Sandman, which almost deprived professional wrestling of an in-attendance Kurt Angle.
After falling short in a “Loser Leaves ECW” match, Raven found a new selection of lost souls in WCW, establishing his Flock.
