10 Weirdest Wrestling Cults Ever
2. Right To Censor
Steven Richards evidently picked up cult leader skills while
a member of Raven’s various ventures. Taking the real-life pressure that the
Parents Television Council were exerting on WWE, Richards’ Right to Censor took
their mission to rid the company of sex and violence.
Dressed like a training video Mormon, Richards initially went on a solo crusade to turn the hardcore soft and then continue until it was limp. Along the way he picked up devotees. Showing his strength as a cult leader, his recruitment highlights were persuading The Godfather to give up pimping, despite its apparent ease, to become The Goodfather, and convincing Val Venis, a man who when asked his hobbies would list every female title featured on a family tree, to end his renowned porn career.
If the group’s censorship antics were not enough to enrage viewers, RTC’s entrance theme was a mix of two alarms, a buzzer, and a repeated robotic “warning”, with a vague and simple underlying musical score.
The cult of Censorship began its decline at WrestleMania X7.
Their losses continued to rack up, and the membership declining as it did.
