The idea of Drew Carey entering the 2001 Royal Rumble match doesn't make any more sense now than it did 19 years ago.

WWE has always specialized in celebrity crossovers, especially back then, but Carey competing in the Rumble so he could promote a comedy special of his at the time was a step too far. He was entertaining in the role, but it was also one of those moments fans can't help but roll their eyes at in retrospect because of how ridiculous it was.

Before the bout, Carey confronted Kane backstage and referred to him as a "goofy guy in the mask," setting the stage for their heated interaction in the Rumble. Carey came out at number five and was immediately left alone in the ring when The Hardy Boyz accidentally eliminated themselves.

The host of The Price is Right wandered around the ring until Kane's music hit the arena. That's when fear overcame Carey. He narrowly avoided eating a chokeslam at the hands of The Big Red Monster and took himself out of the match before Kane could give him his comeuppance.

Similar to Mil Mascaras and Carlos Colon, Carey was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame for his brief Rumble performance a decade later in 2011. On the bright side, the company hasn't wasted any spots in the Rumble on celebrities since... at least until Shaq decides to lace up the boots again, that is.
