Dick Murdoch made a name for himself in New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Mid-South Wrestling (most notably teaming with Junkyard Dog) before arriving in WWE in 1984. His stint was short-lived, but while there, he found success in the tag team ranks alongside Adrian Adonis with whom he held the World Tag Team Championship for 279 days.

Murdoch returned to WWE in the 1995 Royal Rumble match after almost ten years away, as an unannounced entrant at number 27. Aside from laying haymakers upon entering the ring and eliminating The Smoking Guns, Murdoch's Rumble appearance wasn't anything special. He was tossed just over five minutes later by Henry O. Godwinn.

That Rumble marked one of his final matches on a major stage ahead of his untimely death at the age of 49 the following year. Perhaps his appearance was intended to spotlight his underappreciated career or serve as a tribute to his late, great partner Adrian Adonis.

Either way, Captain Redneck felt severely out of place among the stars of The New Generation.
