3. Vince McMahon Says 'Bret Screwed Bret'
As aforementioned during an earlier entry, the 'Montreal Screwjob' remains one of the hottest topics in pro wrestling history. Even though Bret Hart would eventually bury the hatchet with Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels in 2010, wrestling fans are still talking about that fateful night at the 1997 Survivor Series. Bret was on his way out of the then-WWF, and had signed a pre-agreement with WCW. As the reigning WWF Heavyweight Champion, it was clear that Hart had to drop the belt before leaving the company. McMahon, along with Michaels, Triple H, Earl Hebner and others, conspired to 'screw' the Canadian out of the title. Vince called for the bell when Michaels had Bret in his own 'Sharpshooter' finishing move. That was not the planned finish to the match, and Hart was furious. Punching McMahon backstage, he left the WWF in very bad terms. Later, Vince cut a promo on television during which he told that "Bret screwed Bret". The wrestling world promptly blew up, and this indirectly led to the creation of the 'Mr. McMahon' heel character.
