10 Worst Anti-American Wrestling Gimmicks

2. Team Canada

Like most things in 2000 WCW, Team Canada represented the germ of a good idea completely overwhelmed by a freewheeling company long beyond rescuing.

Lance Storm was excellent as leader, becoming the first and only performer in company history to carry three titles simultaneously, most famously rebranding the United States Title the Canadian Heavyweight Title as he fought to restore some dignity to the company's insignificant midcard championships.

Unfortunately, the gimmick was overwhelmed by a Russo-led WCW's penchant for short-term booking and longterm destruction.

Only three years removed from the incredible Hart Foundation vs America angle on the other channel, the stable was destined to feel like a lightweight equivalent, not least after founder members Carl Ouellet and Jacques Rougeau left within weeks of the group forming.

A feud with the pro-America Misfits in Action stable saw legendary patriot Jim Duggan turn heel and join the group, as well as valet Major Gunns make the leap despite initial hesitation working alongside the increasingly militant Storm.

Again showing great impatience, Duggan was ousted from the group months later by Mike Awesome, who coincidentally was the man Storm first defeated when the stable were formed. Storm and Awesome would represent the last remnants of the group on the final Nitro, before dropping the gimmick ahead of their arrival on the WWE roster as part of the 2001 WCW invasion.
