5. Diamond Dallas Page

The Undertaker's real forename was never more apt than in 2001.

The prospect of an invading WCW faction - a faction that invaded storylines - triggered within the Dead Man a bizarre, counterproductive and real siege mentality. This, combined with Creative scripting 'Taker's real-life wife Sara as the object of DDP's unwanted affections, seemed to work 'Taker into a shoot. He revelled in pretending to beat up Page on a weekly basis, in what must have felt like a military disaster for the Master Of The Diamond Cutter. At SummerSlam, 'Taker teamed with Kane to battle DDP and Kanyon in a Steel Cage match. Massacre is the more appropriate word. 'Taker launched himself at Page, bound between the ropes and the mesh, as if he'd just revealed the inner workings of the business to a rube and not, you know, signed up to work for a new wrestling organisation.

Diamond Dallas Page was a bonafide star in WCW; in WWF, he was turned back into coal. He never recovered from this burial. As a man who entered the industry later than most, his shelf life was limited. Page made use of this short timeframe by later fashioning a motivational speaker gimmick.

After that cool summer, he d*mn well needed it.
