10 Worst Botches In AEW History

1. The Entire Matt Hardy Vs. Sammy Guevara Feud

What looked like a very good idea on paper soon devolved into one painful mistake after another. Actually, come to think of it, the entire Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara feud started with a botch, didn't it? When Sammy threw a chair full-pelt at Matt, busting him wide open in the process, a storyline beef between the upstart and the veteran was an inevitability. That in itself isn't a terrible idea, but everything went wrong from then on.

The biggest botch? That was undoubtedly the scissor lift spot at All Out 2020, a Side Effect gone wrong that saw Matt's head hit the concrete in sickening circumstances. The match should have been ended right there and then, but the 'If Matt loses he must leave AEW' was a bit of a spanner in the works. Of course, you could have had the referee just throw the match out and explain that later, but decisions made in the heat of the moment aren't always dripping in logic.

It was a genuinely worrying moment, and not in an entertaining way. Fans were legitimately worried for Matt's health following the spot, and the show should have taken a backseat from that point on. Instead, the match went on, the feud went on, and everyone lost in the end.

There's no shame in botching a spot, but an entire feud?
