There is no doubt that D-Generation X is one of, if not the greatest, factions in wrestling history. Which begs the question, how does DX not only end up on this list, but on top?

There are several reasons, but it all comes down to the pairing of Triple H and Shawn Michaels getting away from everything that made them great in the first place. In 1996, D-Generation X became the hottest act in WWE because they were a band of rebels. They broke the rules, said whatever they wanted and were as provocative as the company allowed them to be, and often crossed the line. Simply put, DX was cool.

However, 20 years later cool was the last word fans would use to describe the reincarnated group. Due to WWE's TV-PG rating, gone was the swearing and controversy, replaced with shameless merchandise plugs and poop jokes. While the 2006 incarnation of the group was a poor man's version of the original faction, it was only the beginning of DX's downfall. When Triple H and Shawn Michaels reunited again in 2010, the PG version of the group was cemented by adding Hornswoggle as DX team mascot.

In the world of movies, the belief is that the sequel is never as good as the original. While that is often the case in wrestling as well, there is no worse reboot, and no worse faction in modern wrestling history, than D-Generation X.
