Vince McMahon seems to have a penchant for not only booking some disappointing payoffs, but for booking himself to play a key role in the very payoffs themselves. Here he is again in the thick of it, this time during the “illegitimate child” angle from the summer of 2007.

The story was that McMahon had an illegitimate long-lost child, who just so happened to be a member of the WWE roster—can you believe it?

Allegedly, the bastard son was initially supposed to be Mr. Kennedy, though those plans changed after a Wellness violation and 30-day suspension derailed Kennedy’s prospective push. Instead, that forced WWE to go to the next best option…

After an elaborate game of riddles, Hornswoggle was determined to be McMahon’s illegitimate child. That’s the same Hornswoggle who, despite being Cruiserweight champion at the time, was little more than a comedy act who seemingly couldn’t even speak English. How can you expect to run a decent angle when one of the guys involved can’t even talk? I guess the answer is that this wasn't supposed to be a decent, serious angle.

The icing on the cake came a few months later when JBL revealed that Hornswoggle was actually Finlay’s son, and so the whole pointless ordeal had ultimately been for nothing.
