10 Worst Summer Angles In WWE History

7. Hogan vs Michaels - 2005

Recent allegations regarding Hulk Hogan aside, his mid-2000s return was another career blemish. After teasing a future match with Austin and helping out the wildly offensive babyface character Eugene, the Hulkster eventually settled into a feud with Shawn Michaels. The build to their dream match at SummerSlam was...interesting. Rather than booking a logical face vs face encounter, the WWE turned Shawn heel - despite his immense popularity since returning to the ring in 2002. This was apparently a demand of Hogan's - one which HBK didn't take too kindly to. Another rumoured plan was for the pair to have two matches over the course of the year, with Hogan winning one and Michaels the other. However, true to form, the Hulkster refused to lose a rematch, and the idea was scrapped. They instead faced off in a one-off encounter, which a disgruntled HBK mercilessly butchered. Michaels didn't ruin the bout by performing badly (it's doubtful whether he can have a bad wrestling match, even on purpose), but by over-selling to a ridiculous degree. He sold single punches by tumbling to the outside, sprang to his feet and ran around in a daze after a big boot, and generally prevented Hogan from being taken seriously.
