1. He Attacked Lita With A Steel Chair
Stone Cold Steve Austin's mercilessly brutal steel chair assault on Lita was an early hail mary from a WWE desperate to present the very worst version of the once-beloved babyface.
'The Rattlesnake' had struggled to transfer cheers to jeers since turning at WrestleMania X-Seven, but in the weeks that followed, Austin and new bestie Triple H had gotten more blowback than they'd anticipated after attempting to pull rank with firm fan favourites Matt and Jeff Hardy. After yet another horrendous beating to the brothers following a Monday Night Raw main event, Lita threw her body across boyfriend Matt's in a last act of blind heroism.
With an almighty swing of a steel chair, 'The Bionic Redneck' launched a blistering broadside at the back of the Team Extreme valet. Defenceless until she was motionless, Lita's lifeless frame peeled away from her partner, at which point Austin continued the attack, stabbing at her ribs with the well-worn weapon.
This really was the worst thing the Stone Cold character had ever done, but beyond the audible shock from the audience that night, it still never truly translated into the sort of heat that drew money.
