10 Worst Times WWE Wrestlers Refused To Lose

4. Goldberg Refused To Lose To Bray Wyatt - Super Showdown 2020

No matter how creative Bray Wyatt became in WWE, he will undoubtedly go down in history as the most mishandled superstar in company history. Decisions like the ones made in Saudi Arabia in 2020 only contributed to this.

Following the most baffling of booking decisions at Hell in a Call 2019, The Fiend won the Universal Championship from Seth Rollins at Crown Jewel (in Saudi Arabia again) the following month. Bray's newest creation would be built as the unstoppable force leading into the new year, battling Daniel Bryan in a good feud, and the Miz in a stinker. The long-term plan was for Wyatt to hold the belt until WrestleMania where Roman Reigns would wrestle and ultimately conquer The Fiend in the main event.

A good number of things prevented that main event from happening, but first and foremost was Goldberg refusing to lose. Goldberg allegedly argued that a loss to Wyatt would hurt his image as he saw himself as a "superhero" to the younger fans and, ultimately didn't want to disappoint them.

One the one hand, this would make sense if the event took place 20 years ago, but in 2020 Goldberg as world champion is something that no-one wanted to see... again. But on the other hand, considering the Saudi government is so out of touch that they thought Yokozuna was still alive, there might have been some merit to that argument. But a fleeting nostalgic pop is not worth the damage it did to another incredible creation.
