10 Worst TNA Champions Ever
5. Jeff Jarrett
In the history of Total Nonstop Action, no man has spent as much time as champion as Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett's six reigns as NWA World Heavyweight Champion total 1,006 days, and have arguably done more to hurt TNA than the exploits of any other champion.
Jarrett was an established midcarder in WWE, and when he jumped to WCW, the struggling promotion made him a multiple-time champion. The company still failed, though, and Jarrett got a reputation as the captain of the sinking ship - one that stuck when Vince McMahon refused to rehire him.
Jarrett started TNA with his father, and before long, he fell into the age-old trap of putting the title on himself. Yes, Jarrett could count on himself not to desert the company or hold himself up for money, but the years he spent with the title in TNA's formative days gave the company a reputation as a second-rate promotion rather than a real alternative to WWE.
Even worse was the template for title matches established during Jarrett's reigns. His bouts were famously overbooked, filled with run-ins and other forms of cheating. This would happen every single month, soon robbing PPV main events of drama.
All in all, Jarrett may have doomed his company from its very onset.
