10 Worst TNA Champions Ever
3. Rhino
TNA abandoned the weekly Pay-Per-View model in 2004, and the next year, they began to use the traditional format of holding one major PPV event each month. The first, Bound For Glory, was held in October of 2005, and was built around the main event of Jeff Jarrett versus Kevin Nash.
The day before the event, Nash was hospitalized with chest pains and had to pull out of his match. The company was left without a challenger for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, so a Gauntlet for the Gold match for the slot was added to the card, with the participants made up of men who were already scheduled for matches on the show. Rhino, who had already won a Monster's Ball match, won the Gauntlet for the Gold and earned an immediate shot at Jarrett's title.
The bout was quick, but action-packed - after overcoming interference from Gail Kim and America's Most Wanted, Rhino hit Jarrett with the Gore to pin him and win the title. A huge brawl ensued, and the babyfaces who came out to help Rhino were left standing tall.
Unfortunately for Rhino, his win wasn't the beginning of a new era for the company - it was simply a hotshot switch designed to make fans feel like they hadn't been cheated by Nash's absence. Two days later, Jarrett won the title back from Rhino, rendering the whole victory flat and the very brief title reign pointless.
