10 Worst Wrestling Matches Of 2023 (According To The Internet)

1. Jeff Jarrett Vs. Jeff Hardy (AEW Dynamite Fight For The Fallen - 16 August)

Baron Corbin Gable Steveson
AEW

Cagematch Rating: 2.24/10.

Or, 'The One with Leatherface.'

A spiritual sequel to WCW's historically wack RoboCop crossover of 1990, this 'Texas Chain Saw Massacre Deathmatch' was branded content to publicise the titular horror movie franchise's new video game, released later that week. Fight for the Fallen has always served as a charity event to raise funds for different causes. In hosting Leatherface, AEW scored over $100,000 in sponsorship income, donating the full amount to the Maui Food Bank one week after catastrophic wildfires had struck the Hawaiian island, claiming at least 99 lives and causing $5.5 billion in damage.

Knowing this, criticising Hardy vs. Jarrett is complicated. One of AEW's worst-ever matches effectively served as aid following a humanitarian crisis.

But however noble the match's existence, it was a hot mess of many interferences, fake blood, and yes, Leatherface hitting the ring with a chainsaw as whirring sounds played through the arena. The villain chased Karen Jarrett from ringside, which confusingly enabled Jeff's victory as he defeated Hardy following a Satnam Singh clothesline - then celebrated with a Leatherface championship belt.

Jeff Jarret, 2023 Chainsaw Champion. Okay.

Matt Hardy, Sonjay Dutt, Jay Lethal, Brother Zay, Ethan Page, and the aforementioned names were all involved within the first minute. Smoke bellowed from beneath the ring at one point, which was never paid off. "Well, that was something," quipped Taz as the dire affair ended.

Quite.
