10 Worst Wrestling Matches Of 2023 (According To The Internet)

3. Britt Baker Vs. Taya Valykrie (AEW Dynamite - 26 July)

Baron Corbin Gable Steveson
AEW

Cagematch Rating: 2.42/10.

Hating Britt Baker has unfortunately become a personality trait amongst the most parasocial members of wrestling's online community in 2023. So vociferous is the disdain from people who have never met the former AEW Women's World Champion that you'd think she had evicted the posters' parents, executed their pet pug, and taken a selfie with the body.

The venom and bile thrown her way is borderline psychotic. Baker's crimes? Being the subject of unfounded backstage reports in a locker room no frothing X user has ever been part of, and contesting a few wrestling matches they didn't like. Scandalous.

Nonetheless, Baker's 26 July clash with Taya Valkyrie was dysfunctional. It was a subpar match between two wrestlers visibly struggling for chemistry and cohesion, resulting in several flubs, including a miscommunicated Panama Sunrise spot (that was repeated immediately after, drawing further attention) and an overambitious Lockjaw counter out of the Road to Valhalla for the finish, which played out in stages. A lot of it looked bad. It's unlikely that either woman will remember it fondly.

Valid criticism is fair and no wrestler's work is beyond reproach. The frothing rage this match inspired, however, was absurd.
