10 Worst WWE Gimmick Ideas You Won't Believe Almost Happened

6. Spaceman Bob Holly

WWE's ECW revival was full of nonsense, particularly during the early days. Ahead of the brand's 2006 debut, the writers were supposedly instructed to devise science fiction-based gimmicks at the request of their network (the Sci-Fi Channel). These instructions led to ECW legend The Sandman wrestling a zombie on the first show, and almost triggered a dramatic facelift for one of the most po-faced men in the sport.

Career midcarder and noted backstage curmudgeon Bob 'Hardcore' Holly had nothing going on at the time. He'd just recovered from a serious arm injury that had kept him out for close to a year, and a repackaging was pitched for his return. The proposal had WWE explaining Bob's lengthy absence by saying he'd been busy working with NASA, thus bringing 'Space Corps Holly' to life.

Bob would reportedly wear a space suit to the ring, and be accompanied by a pet monkey (an astronaught him/herself, presumably). The character never made it to television, and Holly continued as the generic, grumpy brawler he'd played for much of his career, but while it would probably have bombed, the idea of 'Hardcore' hamming it up with such a goofy gimmick is pretty hilarious.
