10 Worst WWE Intercontinental Title Matches This Decade
7. Drew McIntyre Vs. Kane - Elimination Chamber 2010
Kane, like another lumberer on this list, shouldn't have been anywhere near the Intercontinental title, least of all in 2010.
The classic Intercontinental title match is contested between two rising stars on the cusp of greatness, characterised by athleticism and technicality, containing within in state of the art moves, and fought at a brisk pace.
This match, which could charitably be described as perfunctory, is the opposite of that. 'The Chosen One' employs a logical strategy, targeting Kane's knee and shoulder to nullify the respective threats of his flying clothesline and chokeslam, but there's very little else going on. Lacking dynamism, the match, like many of Kane's latter day efforts, is fought at an interminable pace.
McIntyre tries to ramp up the entertainment factor with a flailing, painful-looking bump to the outside, but it's in vain, ultimately. Kane at this point in his career could only sustain audience interest with added help. It's no wonder that his best recent work was with Daniel Bryan in Team Hell No.
The match is also marred by the bickering between Matt Striker and Jerry Lawler, the latter of whom, probably at the behest of Vince McMahon, was never slow to show his irritation at Striker's insistence on drilling down into the minutiae of a wrestler's strategy.
