8. Hell In A Cell 2018

2019 Hell in a Cell was terrible but in its own way, it was sort of funny. When things are that bad, all you can do is laugh, right? The 2018 show was every bit as dumb, only with a finish that further killed not one, but two gimmicks, and made two top guys look weak as sh*t. In the long term game that is professional wrestling, that is a bigger crime than being particularly nitpicky about the size of hammers.

Braun Strowman was cashing-in his Money in the Bank briefcase in a Cell match against Roman Reigns, a match announced ahead of time by Strowman. The match was another in a long line of Hell in a Cell matches that feature the very thing it is designed to stop, that being interference, but the worst was yet to come.

Brock Lesnar was the last man to interfere, kicking the door off its hinges and laying waste to Reigns and Strowman. Well, laying waste is a bit strong, he merely hit them with tables and F5s before leaving, but a referee decided that neither Braun nor Roman was in any shape to continue. The match was declared a no contest, the first (!) Hell in a Cell match to finish in such a stupid manner.

Not only that, but Braun also lost his cash-in as a result. This was a perfect example of how to damage every single moving part in one fell swoop.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
