Here's a classic example of how to kill off one's momentum. On the Raw side of the table, Christian was amassing a cult following, despite having been a heel for the previous three years. His promos were entertaining, his ring-work was excellent, and his interactions with other performers demonstrated his overall compatibility. When he began adding mock freestyle raps to his verbal repertoire, a main event star was being birthed before the WWE audience.

Then Christian was sent to SmackDown, where the accumulated impetus wore off in losses to The Mexicools and Booker T. The word was that Vince McMahon didn't see Christian as a main event talent, and Christian subsequently refused to sign a new contract when prompted that October. He left after a brief appearance at Taboo Tuesday, and debuted for TNA at Genesis twelve nights later.
