10. 1988 - Hacksaw Jim Duggan Wins Boring First Rumble On The USA Network
Look at his wee face! Hacksaw Jim Duggan clearly couldn't be happier to have won the first Royal Rumble back in January of 1988. The WWF had agreed to do a special on cable TV and Vince McMahon brainstormed with Pat Patterson on what to present, which prompted Patterson to come up with the Royal Rumble gimmick, taking ideas from old battle royals he'd been a part of during his own career. The reason the initial Rumble match makes this list is that, in reality, it just wasn't very exciting at all. Sure, there are good workers in the match like Bret Hart, Tito Santana, Rick Martel, Jake Roberts and a couple more, but it seemed like the concept hadn't fully formed yet and instead it just came across like a battle royal with a buzzer. In fact, every January when the debate always begins between friends about favourite Royal Rumble matches, the 1988 match is never mentioned. It's a bit boring but, in saying that, it's nice to see Jim Duggan being shown some love by the then-WWF.
