Bigger isn't always better when it comes to stages and entrance ways, and in a mirroring of an Invasion angle drifting interminably to its inevitable conclusion the following month, No Mercy's suffered from bloat over brilliance.

Like the roster itself at the time, there was a lot to look at but so little of it actually mattered. Sheets hung high and low around a makeshift TitanTron and tunnel, but none of it really spoke to the dissension in the ranks of the Alliance that informed an intriguing main event triple threat clash pitting WWE Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin against Kurt Angle and Rob Van Dam.

Perhaps they were taking inspiration from the promo style they'd forced upon 'Mr Monday Night' following his arrival in the organisation. It was hard to imagine anybody looking at the finished article and responding with much more than a "cool" or "whatever".
