Hot damn, that is one sweet, sweet belt.

Sorry, but it is. If we're briefly talking title design, then that current WWE United States variation is one of this writer's absolute favourites. When the company relaunched their own version of the NWA/WCW classic in 2003, it was a beautiful day. It's so pleasing on the eye that there's been no need to change it since. The same can't be said of the dudes holding it.

Things all started so well when Eddie Guerrero won a blistering tournament final against Chris Benoit at Vengeance 2003 to become the first champion since WCW's US Title was abolished in 2001. The rejigged SmackDown belt was a credit to the brand, had a fine kickoff champ and the future looked bright. So much for that then, huh? There have been some utterly atrocious US Champions since.

The worst of the bunch are housed here, and the timescale examined ranges from 2005-2019. In that 14-year span, WWE's treatment of such a fine-looking championship has ebbed and flowed between excellence and abhorrent. The age-old phrase, 'the belt doesn't make the man' comes to mind...
