There is no denying that Jillian Hall's role as a truly awful pop star wannabe was one of the most original and entertaining characters of the late 2000s era of women's wrestling. Her willingness to embarrass herself through ear-shattering "singing" was admirable and her role as the glorified jobber of the Divas division helped build up the likes of Mickie James and Melina, both of whom thrived during that period. As great as she was in the role, though, her run as Divas Champion in 2009 ranks as one of the most ridiculously unnecessary ones in WWE history. On October 12, she defeated Mickie James out of nowhere to capture a title she had never been even remotely close to achieving. Then, just seconds later, found herself on the receiving end of a challenge from the returning Melina. She would lose the championship just minutes after winning it, leaving many to wonder why. The answer is simple: WWE Creative was looking for a way to transition the title from one babyface to another without them having to directly compete against each other. Jillian was little more than the stopgap. Her reign as champion was a bragging right for the voluptuous Diva but little more.
