Throughout the '90s, magazines were sold solely on the strength of articles discussing what might happen if WCW stars like Bill Goldberg worked at WrestleMania. Though opponents like Steve Austin, Triple H and The Rock were firm favourites, another headliner had risen by Goldberg's first 'Mania appearance in 2004: Brock Lesnar.

It was tantalising to envision Goldberg and Lesnar, both of whom had been introduced as unstoppable squash artists, go head-to-head. At 'Mania XX, that'd become reality, and it'd be unfortunately spoiled by the fact Bill and Brock wanted out of their WWE contracts.

Madison Square Garden, a loyal WWE venue, rejected their match, spent the duration of it catcalling both and only cheered for Steve Austin in the referee role. Goldberg's first ever WrestleMania match created demons it'd take Bill over 13 years to exorcise.

He was booed out of MSG after beating Lesnar and succumbing to a Stone Cold Stunner. At least Bill got to make up for it at 'Mania 33...
