10 Worst WWE Wrestlers Of 2016

6. The Shining Stars

As if Los Matadore’s cartoony bullfighter schtick wasn’t bad enough, Primo & Epico took things to a whole new level in 2016. El Torito was released from WWE in the spring, and with the two Puerto Ricans stuck in flux, WWE decided to repackage them in bewildering fashion.

Primo & Epico started appearing in a series of bizarre promo videos enticing viewers to come to Puerto Rico, “the Shining Star of the Caribbean,” and it continued when they made television. If they’re on your screen, The Shining Stars will spend their time handing out tourism brochures and attempting to sell cut-price timeshares to potential opponents. They’ve become sleazy travel agents, and the gimmick change has seen them rooted to the foot of the Raw tag division.

The Shining Stars are an unwanted throwback to the mid-90s’ paper thin occupational gimmicks, and it’s not getting them over. They struggled for heat as Los Matadores, and they’re struggling for heat as the Stars. Now five years into their run, Primo & Epico have just a single Tag Team Title reign to their name, and seem destined to an eternity of putting everyone else over.

The Stars entered a brief feud with Enzo & Cass in September and even notched a couple of pinfalls over the popular duo, but the story ended without explanation. For now, Primo & Epico are the heel equivalent of The Golden Truth, and one of the company’s most cringe-worthy acts.
