The last WrestleMania to occur without John Cena happened back in 2003 ('Mania XIX). On that night, Cena had to make do with a quick appearance on the pre-show, cutting a promo about how he'd make his mark the next year. That came true, the man defeated The Big Show in the opening bout of 'Mania XX to become the new WWE United States Champion. Since then, he hasn't missed the annual spectacular.

Original promotional materials for the pay-per-view did feature Cena, which makes sense given his status as one of WWE's poster boys for well over a decade. During the press conference to hype the event however, the multi-time World Champ confessed that he wouldn't be healthy in time for WrestleMania 32. In the same speech, he said that he would be part of 'Mania 33 the following year.

Some had been speculating that Cena would interject in the Hell In A Cell scrap between The Undertaker and Shane McMahon on the show, but that can't happen now. Recent reports suggest the guy won't actually be around permanently again until as late as July.
