10 WrestleMania Results That Made Absolutely No Sense

8. Edge Defeats Alberto Del Rio - WrestleMania XXVII

After winning the largest Royal Rumble in history, the build up to Alberto Del Rio's match with Edge at WrestleMania XXVII for the World Heavyweight Championship centred around one thing and one thing only: destiny. Del Rio repeated over and over that it was his destiny to claim the title, and everything pointed towards a win for the Mexican aristocrat at the big show. It might not have been a hugely popular decision, but it made sense nonetheless. Del Rio had a rocket strapped to him, and was on the way to becoming a certified main event player in an increasingly stale scene at the top of the card. Edge was champion, an incredible performer who was closer to the end of his career than we realised but most definitely one with his best days behind him. Edge defeated Del Rio clean with the spear, and that was that. Destiny was snuffed out, and days later Edge retired. Surely Del Rio would finally grab the title? Nope, Edge's storyline brother Christian was the next champion. Del Rio has never been the same since.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
