10 Wrestler Deaths WWE Ignored

1. Jack Tunney

Unlike everyone else on this list, Jack Tunney lived a relatively full life (he was 69 when he died). However, just like everyone else mentioned so far, his death was outright ignored by the company that employed him for so long.

For over a decade, Tunney was the fictitious president of the World Wrestling Federation. Unlike authority figures these days, he wasn’t on TV that often, but when he was, it meant something big was about to go down. He suspended Andre the Giant in an angle. He stripped the Million Dollar Man of the WWF Title when it was handed to him. He was always in the background, making sure that the promotion had an even playing field.

Eventually Gorilla Monsoon took over as president of the company on-air, but Tunney had certainly put in his time to receive some sort of farewell. However, after he left the company in 1995, he never once showed up on TV. The poor dude didn’t get a Hall of Fame induction either. He just disappeared. In 2004 he passed away with no mention from WWE.

To make matters more confusing, no one from the company went to his funeral. It seems that there may have been some bad blood between the two sides. There have been rumors speculating that Tunney was taking money from the promotion while running the Toronto office. Other rumors suggest that he was let go simply because the promotion itself wasn’t very successful at the time, and they needed to cut costs. Whatever happened seems like it could have been forgiven years later, so that WWE could at least have mentioned his name after his passing. Apparently not.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
