10 Wrestlers AEW Let Slip Through Their Fingers
2. Marty Scurll
Marty Scurll was put in an awkward position when all of his Elite buddies left Ring Of Honor to start up All Elite Wrestling at the start of 2019 and he was still under contract to the company. Of course, he was expected to join them in AEW once his ROH deal expired, until he didn't.
ROH's poor booking of Scurll over the last year seemed to indicate he had one foot out the door, but reportedly the promotion made him an offer he couldn't refuse and appointed him to a pretty prominent role backstage.
Although it's too soon to tell whether he made the right choice or not, his influence is already being felt on the product and it's been positive. Scurll shouldn't be blamed for going where he'll make the most money, but the real question is, how didn't AEW outbid them for his services?
For as many promising prospects as AEW has under contract, they'll need more star power eventually. Scurll could have filled that void with ease and, of course, there is plenty to explore there storyline-wise with him either aligning or feuding with The Elite.
He's currently appearing in three different companies (ROH, the NWA and NJPW) and feels as important as ever, so maybe he dodged a bullet by not taking the most obvious route.
Then again, every story needs a villain, none more than AEW.
