10 Wrestlers Cursed By Their Undefeated Streaks

Sting went undefeated in WCW for over a year at the height of the company's popularity... though this streak was somewhat ill-gotten. 'The Icon' astonishingly went almost all of 1997 without grabbing a hold thanks to the Crow vs. nWo storyline the company were only too happy to commit to.

Abandoning WCW because his colleagues abandoned him when the New World Order employed a doppelganger to challenge his credibility, Sting stayed put in the rafters until revealing his allegiances later that year. Decisively pointing his baseball bat at the baddies, Sting's colours may have been black and white but his ties were not.

The part vigilante/part saviour gimmick worked a treat right up to the moment Sting emerged for the mammoth-drawing Starrcade 1997 main event against Hulk Hogan. It was there 'The Hulkster' allegedly had a word with referee Nick Patrick about a planned fast count finish and infamously sabotaged the story's natural conclusion.

Both Hogan and WCW gaffer Eric Bischoff have said on the record that they were somewhat surprised and disappointed with Sting's conditioning and wrestling shape upon returning for such a big spot. The potential blessing of a year off taking bumps was, with some probable regret, his biggest curse.
