10 Wrestlers Having An AMAZING 2023 (… That Nobody Is Talking About)

2. Aussie Open

Aussie Open's association with Will Ospreay is both positive and negative. It's positive in the sense that they're aligned with who many regard to be one of the best all-round pro wrestlers in the world - but that's precisely what makes it a negative union. Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher will always be in Ospreay's shadow, as is evident from their lack of spotlight in spite of their otherworldly performances across the year.

Terse stints on AEW and ROH programming, as well as a spot on the co-promoted IMPACT and NJPW Multiverse United pay-per-view, saw Aussie Open make headlines for their spry teamwork and obedience toward the rules in a manner not unlike FTR.

On home soil - Japan, that is, not Australia - Davis and Fletcher have taken the reigns previously held by gobs of modern tag team Aces. Their Sakura Genesis victory of the IWGP Tag Team titles over Bishamon was the duo's breakout match in the puroresu market leader, a fifteen-minute saga that saw Aussie Open perform at the highest level conceivable. A vulgar gash suffered to Kyle Fletcher's head energised he and Mark Davis, the live Tokyoite audience swaying in favour of them once they saw how hard the duo were fighting to finally realise immortality in NJPW's tag team division.

Such displays of splendor rarely go unnoticed by management - hopefully, it didn't. Expect this to be Aussie Open's first of many times on top.
