10 Wrestlers Having An Incredible 2022
9. Bianca Belair
Just a heads up, this list is going to be largely made of up of men. That reflects a borderline paradoxical situation, wherein the two biggest North American promotions are clearly the two best options in terms of fame and financial security - but can both be pretty terrible places for women to ply their trade.
On top of that, some of the best women in the business are having bad or indifferent years. Bayley has spent most of the year on the shelf, Ronda Rousey has struggled, Charlotte Flair has underwhelmed in the ring and been dogged by rumours of backstage heat - and Sasha Banks walked away entirely. Over in AEW, Thunder Rosa has turned being professionally disgruntled into her gimmick and everyone else suffers from the promotion’s rotation system.
The rule proving exception is “The EST Of WWE” and even she has had to fight back from an awful bit of booking last year. Fans worried Belair had been buried by a 26 second SummerSlam defeat to Becky Lynch.
A year later she’s proven that, booked correctly, women can be the biggest stars in the entire company. Her WrestleMania 38 match against Becky Lynch was one of the best on either night, repeating the success of her acclaimed performance at last year’s “Show of Shows.”
Another decisive victory at this year’s SummerSlam exorcised any remaining demons. Plus, post match, she was part of the hottest moment of Triple H’s tenure so far, facing off against returning trio Bayley, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai.
