10 Wrestlers Legitimately More Unhinged Than Dean Ambrose

9. Sabu

Sabu, the man credited with popularising the ever-present broken table spot in western mainstream wrestling, was and is as bonkers as Foley between the ropes (or barbed wire).

In his Born To Be Wired match with Terry Funk, his bicep was ripped clean off following an ill-fated attempt at his Air Sabu signature move. In what must to any reasonably minded person have been excruciating pain, The Suicidal, Homicidal, Genocidal Death-Defying Man simply requested some tape from manager Bill Alfonso before performing the most rudimentary approximation of surgery ever performed.

A ripped-apart bicep was probably nothing to a man who had forged his reputation in Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling, the brainchild of a madman who appears here in a few short clicks...

But, unlike the Hardcore Legend, his lunacy is not confined to the ring. A known and open drug user, Sabu's nonchalant approach to marijuana is legendary - he helped torpedo his buddy Rob Van Dam's first and only WWE title reign in a haze of cannabis, having been pulled over for speeding in Ohio in 2006.

The Chinese writer Zhou Weihui once wrote that 'Crazy people are considered mad by the rest of the society only because their intelligence isn't understood'. She evidently hadn't seen much in the way of ECW.
