10 Wrestlers Who Nearly Died In Travelling Incidents
6. The Hurricane Wrecks His Bike And Himself
In 2011, Gregory The Hurricane Helms, one of wrestlings standout cruiserweight champions and a true talent, would be involved in a serious motorcycle accident with his girlfriend, one which nearly ended his life, never mind his career. Helms other half would be rushed to hospital with a broken neck, while Helms himself broke his leg, ankle, jaw and nose, received several other fractures and required over 200 stitches. His foot had to be reconstructed with four metal plates and twenty-two screws at one point, it was considered that they might have to amputate the foot altogether. Today, the recovered Helms views the incident as a turning point in his life, as he was several points over the legal limit at the time and was charged with driving under the influence. Still wrestling, yet in pain from his injuries every day, Helms accepted the blame for the incident and, now a father, takes every opportunity to count his blessings. In fact, Helms counts the accident as having directly led to the birth of his son, as in his months of recovery, all he was able to do was lie there, eat and have sex: he jokes that he got big and so did his girlfriend. Nicely put, Hurricane.
