10 Wrestlers That Are Causing A Scottish Revolution
These guys and gals are flying the flag for Scotland...
Ask any casual wrestling fan from the 1980s who the most famous Scottish wrestler of all time is and they'll answer 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper. Whilst Piper did wear a kilt, genuinely play the bagpipes, and was billed as being from Glasgow, most now know he actually hailed from Canada.
There's no shame in that. Piper was considered a hero by many Scottish wrestling fans because of his affection for the country. If he were alive today, 'Hot Rod' would be proud to see that the Scottish wrestling scene is bursting at the seams with tremendous talent.
Companies like ICW, PBW, SWA, and BCW are crammed full of talented men and women that have a legitimate shot at making it to WWE someday. Some of them have even been to WWE, flying the flag for Scotland.
Not everyone on this list actually hails from the country, but they are causing a revolution North of the border that really deserves more focus.
Let's examine those responsible for upping the quality level over the past few years, causing people worldwide to look at Scotland differently.
10. Viper
Women's wrestling may now be the subject of renewed focus in WWE, but it's been a valuable part of cards for years in Scotland. Something those who regularly watch the top companies in North America may never see again is inter-gender matches, mainly because of hesitancy over showing violence between men and women.
Viper is exactly the kind of female performer that wouldn't look out of place against the men. Her power-based move set isn't the only reason: Viper has a presence to her work that crosses the barriers set by gender in pro wrestling. What's more, she's had that aura for years.
It hasn't always been recognised as much as it could have been, but Viper has worked extensively for companies like the Scottish Wrestling Alliance and Insane Championship Wrestling. In addition to that, she's also visited Japan more than once to hone her craft.
There's a sense that Viper is ready to get properly noticed by the wrestling world. Her hard work in the ring is enhanced by top notch facial expressions that really enable her to convey danger against smaller workers.
