Taking a single well-delivered powerbomb is, barring some pain upon the bump, not going to damage anybody's career. However, there is one exception where a wrestler's whole reputation was tarnished at the hands of a powerbomb, and that wrestler was Marc Mero.

Mero began building his respectable career in WCW as Johnny B. Badd before jumping to the World Wrestling Federation under his own name. He captured the Intercontinental Championship within less than a year in the promotion, proving that the company had high hopes for him. Of course, it didn't hurt that he had his real-life wife, the eye-catching Sable, by his side as a valet. But that which brings someone up can often be their downfall.

His kayfabe split from Sable was primed as a chance to turn him into a dastardly villain, with plans for him to feud against the newly crowned WWF Champion 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin. However, during his rivalry with Sable, he took a Sable Bomb from her. Many deemed this a sign of weakness, including Austin himself, who didn't want his character beaten up by someone publicly powerbombed by a woman. This led to a drastic decline in his career.

Mero eventually parted ways with the company and had a semi-decent TNA run before retiring from wrestling in 2006. One powerbomb did all that damage.
