10 Wrestlers The Fans Turned On
1. Ronda Rousey
This one was never in the plan.
Ronda Rousey’s first year in WWE was an unmitigated success. Her debut alongside Kurt Angle against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon was masterful, and when she hit the main roster, she hit the ground running. The fans were behind her and she quickly claimed the RAW Women’s Championship.
Then, WWE misjudged Becky Lynch’s popularity and Ronda’s was in jeapardy.
With the fans sick of Charlotte Flair and not Becky getting opportunities, the sensible storyline was for the ‘Lass Kicker’ to turn on her friend. However, the fans sided with Becky, who quickly became the most popular women on the roster. After that, a wild fist from Nia Jax cemented the Irish talent as the biggest star in the company.
Immortalised in blood, Becky soon became ‘The Man’, with fans chanting her name through every Rousey promo. At Survivor Series, as Flair obliterated the former UFC Champion with a kendo stick, the fans chanted for Becky more, leaving a clearly distressed Rowdy One to look at them in confusion.
Every promo began to stumble, as the champion’s ego was clearly bruised at Becky’s surge in popularity. Eventually, Vince McMahon had no other option but to turn Rousey heel, and, considering the tirade of abuse she has dished out to wrestling fans since then, Ronda has never forgiven fans for it.
