10 Wrestlers Who Became Unexpectedly Popular Babyfaces In 2020
1. Hangman Page
Hangman Page was always a good wrestler with a passionate fanbase, but he didn't have that spark leading into last year's All Out title match against Chris Jericho. Instead of being the triumphant babyface against the villainous Jericho, fans didn't completely unite behind Page and instead celebrated when Jericho put the cowboy away with the Judas Effect.
Yet, this was the best thing that could have happened to Hangman as he found a new complexity to his character exploring his alcoholism. His complicated tag team with Kenny Omega, oscillating between initial miscommunication, eventual love and heartbreaking tragedy has been the best storyline of the year. His issues with the Young Bucks resulted in AEW’s best match of the year at the Revolution event and has contributed to the tapestry of his inevitable feud with Omega.
His wrestling is improving every week, his genuinely relatable and kind presence on Twitter is refreshing, he shows intense charisma and vibrant personality every week on television and he is naturally sympathetic. He is now arguably the top babyface in the company, something that might not have happened if Page had went over last year.
